Dal Fry – Restaurant-Style Classic

Serves: 3 | Prep Time: 10 min | Cook Time: 20 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Toor dal (or mix Toor + Moong)

  • 2 tbsp ghee or oil

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 onion (finely chopped)

  • 1 tomato (chopped)

  • 1 green chili (slit)

  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste

  • ½ tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • Salt to taste

  • Chopped coriander for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Pressure cook dal until soft. Mash well.

  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin, onions, green chili, and ginger-garlic paste.

  3. Add tomatoes and spices. Cook until oil separates.

  4. Add dal and 1 cup water. Simmer for 7–10 minutes.

  5. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
